Objectives
Bring to market vehicles that can call out the emergency services by giving precise details of their location. Provide a medical and technical assistance service.
How do emergency calls work?
- Emergency calls are made by the driver, or by the automatic dialling function when the vehicle detects a violent impact (e.g. airbag deployment).
- Telephone contact is made with an operator who can then identify and locate the vehicle using the onboard GPS system and, depending on the gravity of the situation, provide medical assistance by telephone or send out the emergency services.
In January 2003, Peugeot set up the IMA emergency-call platform
- The IMA service was one of the first emergency-call telematics platforms to be set up by a volume car manufacturer.
The emergency call function is available on virtually all Group vehicles
- Peugeot and Citroën vehicles now feature – as standard or optional – an innovative telematics platform with an "emergency call" function.
- The system is called RT3-SUAL at Peugeot and Navidrive at Citroën. It groups a range of functions (RDS radio and traffic information, hands-free telephone, navigation and technical assistance) and, in particular, emergency calls in the event of an accident.
